Every year, the Opus One from the Mondavi and Rothschild estate from California is eagerly awaited. The 2015 vintage was influenced by sustained heat and drought. In February, a storm brought heavy rain, ensuring that the vines had a good but short blossoming time, leading to a smaller quantity of grapes. The very hot summer season had a positive impact on the grapes’ growth. From 1 September, the weather conditions were ideal during harvest so that the grapes were selectively picked when fully ripe.
The Opus One 2015 shows a real explosion of spices, offering aromas of cinnamon, cloves and pepper. In addition, the wine offers multi-layered notes of fruit such as blackberries, plums, mulberries and bilberries. It is supple on the palate, showing earthy notes and velvety tannins. The finish is characterised by a fresh acidity, pointing to the wine’s longevity. The Opus One 2015 has a creamy structure, a juicy fullness and a wonderful balance as well.
