Der Macán ist ein reinsortiger Tempranillo aus der Rioja, der auch im Jahrgang 2018 ein Ausnahme-Rotwein ist.

Das Bouquet des spanischen Rotweins ist faszinierend facettenreich. Es vereint Noten von Brombeeren und Pflaumen mit hintergründigen Düften von Lakritz, Tabak, Kaffee, Schokolade und Zimt. Florale Noten (Veilchen) sowie wunderbar harmonierendes Eichenholz runden den Duftstrauß ab. James Suckling vergibt für den Vega Sicilia Macán 2018 stolze 95 Punkte. Der US-Weinkritiker schreibt: „Eine schöne, komplexe Nase mit weichen Gewürzen, Zeder, frischen Brombeeren, roten Pflaumen, Trüffeln und einem Hauch von Walnüssen und Mokka.“

Am Gaumen ist diese Kreation von Vega Sicialia und Baron de Rothschild trocken und kraftvoll, mit raumgreifenden Tanninen und einer eindrucksvollen Fruchtbetontheit. „Der Macán 2018 hat einen moderaten Alkoholgehalt (14 %) und mehr Frische (pH 3,69), was auf ein kühleres und regnerisches Jahr zurückzuführen ist, das sie veranlasste, die Sortierung und Auswahl der Trauben zu verfeinern“, erläutert Luis Gutiérrez in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate einige Hintergründe. 16 Monate wurde der Macán 2018 im Eichernholz ausgebaut, wobei zu 55 Prozent Barriquefässer eingesetzt wurden und zusätzlich große Fässer. And what can we say: anyone lucky enough to open a bottle of Vega Sicilia Alión will quickly join in the praise.The bouquet of the pure Tempranillo (or Tinto Fino, as the grape variety is usually called in the Ribera del Duero region) is irresistibly captivating. Complex, intense notes of blackberries, blueberries, cherries and pomegranate in a wonderful interplay with notes of cocoa and vanilla. Nuances of violets and a subtle minerality round off the bouquet. Suckling comments on the bouquet of the Alión 2020: "Ripe, dark plums and black cherries with violets, stone, coffee and graphite. Also fine notes of balsamic fruit and cocoa powder."On the palate, this outstanding creation from Vega Sicilia is dry and at the same time intensely fruity, with masterfully integrated, dense tannins. Suckling finds these idiosyncratic words: "Full-bodied and juicy with an iron fist of tannins, yet so velvety and polished. Very long, concentrated finish that shows a lot of finesse and layers."
