Neethlingshof The Duiker Cadenza Sauvignon Blanc Fumé is a white wine with a strong character and a smoky accent. It comes from the heart of South Africa's Stellenbosch wine region and is part of the renowned "Short Story Collection" from the Neethlingshof wine estate. This line is dedicated to special wines with a distinctive character and a story - and that is exactly what this Sauvignon Blanc Fumé is.

Even in the glass, this white wine impresses with a light golden yellow color and subtle greenish reflections. The nose reveals a multi-layered bouquet with aromas of gooseberry, lime and tropical fruit, complemented by subtle smoky notes that give the wine its typical fumé character. Subtle hints of herbs, green asparagus and a touch of vanilla underline its complexity.

The grapes for the Cadenza Sauvignon Blanc Fumé are harvested by hand in the cool morning hours to preserve freshness and aromatic diversity. After a short maceration period, the grapes are gently pressed. The must is then fermented at a controlled temperature to emphasize the fruity and fresh notes of the Sauvignon Blanc.

In contrast to classic Sauvignon Blancs, this wine is partly matured in French oak barrels. The targeted use of wood gives it a gentle creaminess and the smoky, spicy depth that characterizes it as a "fumé". The skillful use of wood preserves the freshness, while the wine gains structure and complexity.

The Neethlingshof Sauvignon Blanc Fumé is an ideal accompaniment to grilled fish, scallops or seafood risotto. It also harmonizes perfectly with goat's cheese, fried green asparagus or Asian dishes with lemongrass. Serve at a drinking temperature of 8-10 °C to experience its full spectrum of aromas.

Neethlingshof Wine Estate

Bereits 1692 begann der deutsche Siedler Willem Barend Lubbe auf dem heutigen Grundstück von Neethlingshof mit der Bearbeitung des Bodens. Er nannte die Farm De Wolwedans, „Der Tanz der Wölfe“. Nachdem im Jahre 1788 die Familie Marais die Farm übernommen hatte, wurde mit dem Ausbau der Weinberge begonnen und letztlich im Jahre 1802, nach Fertigstellung eines eigenen Kellers, die Weinproduktion begonnen. Im Jahre 1828, drei Jahre nach der Heirat von Tochter Anna mit Johannes Henoch Neethling wurde die Farm in Neethlings Hof umbenannt. Später wurde die Schreibweise dann in Neethlingshof geändert. Die nächste große Veränderung kam dann im Jahre 1985. Der deutsche Bankier Hans Joachim Schreiber kauft die Farm und investiert Erhebliches in die Renovierung und Restaurierung von Gebäuden. Außerdem werden die meisten Weinberge neu bepflanzt. Zwischen 1999 und 2017 gab es ein Joint Venture zwischen der Firma Distell und Neethlingshof, was aber 2017 beendet wurde. Seitdem befindet sich die Farm wieder zu 100% im Besitz der Familie Schreiber.

Das 273 ha große Weingut, das Mitglied der Biodiversity & Wine Initiative ist und für seinen Schutz des Lebensraums der Ureinwohner anerkannt ist, hat 116 ha für den Naturschutz reserviert. Neethlingshof kultiviert sowohl rote als auch weiße Rebsorten, wobei die Tendenz geringfügig zu Gunsten der Weißen ist. Die wichtigsten Weißweinsorten sind Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay und Gewürztraminer.

Der Neethlingshof liegt im Herzen der Weinanbaugebiete des Kaps. Neben den Bottelary Hills und dem Papegaaiberg in der Nähe von Stellenbosch und mit Blick auf die False Bay bietet diese wunderschöne, historische Farm nicht nur eine atemberaubende Kulisse, sondern auch einen Vorgeschmack auf die traditionelle Kapkultur, die mit Einflüssen aus Afrika und Europa verschmilzt.

Auf Neethlingshof haben die Winzer in aller Ruhe daran gearbeitet, ihr Handwerk zu perfektionieren. Seit mehr als einem Jahrhundert ist das Weingut ein Synonym für die besten Weinbautraditionen des Westkap.

Der Neethlingshof Caracal ist ein Wein aus der Short Story Collection. Die Geschichte, die sich um diesen Wein rangt, zeigt den Einsatz des Weingutes für die Natur. Der Caracal ist ein afrikanischer Luchs (Rooikats). Die Wildkatzenart konnte durch gezielte Erhaltung und Sanierung der Lebensräume wieder auf der Farm angesiedelt werden. Jetzt wird dies durch das Label und den Namen des Weines gewürdigt. Die Farbe des Neethlingshof Caracal ist intensiv dunkelrot. In der Nase sind wunderschöne Pflaumen-, Johannisbeer- und Kirscharomen wahrnehmbar. Hinzu kommen Noten von Eichen- und Zedernholz sowie Vanilletöne. Am Gaumen zeigt sich der Wein körperreich, muskulös und weich. Die festen, aber geschmeidigen Tanninen tragen zur kräftigen Struktur bei. Der Caracal ist im Bordeaux-Stil ausgebaut und reifte für 16 Monate auf einer Kombination aus französischen und amerikanischen Holzfässern. Der trockene Rotwein passt hervorragend zu Steak, Ochsenschwanz, Beef Stroganoff, Ratatouille und gereiftem Käse.Der südafrikanische Wein ist vegan.

One was planted in 1985, the other in 2003. The diverse harvest adds complexity, different flavors and structure to the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning and immediately transported to the cellar. Before pressing, the mash remains on the skins for 6-12 hours. Then the aromatic Sauvignon Blanc is fermented cold in stainless steel tanks. The 100 days of aging on the fine lees gives the Sauvignon melt.Produced in limited quantities, the Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc displays typical aromas of elderflower, nettle, passion fruit and lime. Unter anderem in diesem Weinberg wird mit einem integrierten Schädlingsmanagement gearbeitet, was ein Teil des Fokus ist auf das sich das Weingut Neethlingshof konzentriert. Dafür wurden Eulenpfähle im Weinberg platziert umso eine natürliche Schädlingsbekämpfung zu unterstützen und den Einsatz von Pestiziden zu verringern. Die Weinberge wurden 1997 bepflanzt und sind reich an organischem Material. Sie liegen auf einer Höhe von 120 Metern und bestehen vornehmlich aus zersetztem Granit. Der Neethlingshof The Owl Post Pinotage hat eine tiefrote Farbe, eine komplexe Textur mit schwarzen und roten Früchten. Die Tannine sind wunderbar eingebunden und werden von einer feinen Säure unterstützt. Das Bouquet zeigt reife Fruchtaromen, unter anderem Banane.
