Lanzerac Commemorative Pinotage 2021

The Lanzerac Commemorative Pinotage 2021 is a tribute to the long tradition and heritage of South African winemaking. Lanzerac, one of the oldest wine estates in the country, is celebrating the launch of the world's first commercial Pinotage wine with this special vintage, which was launched by this very estate in 1959. The Lanzerac Commemorative Pinotage is a true expression of the uniqueness of this indigenous South African grape variety.

In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, it unfolds a rich spectrum of aromas dominated by ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by a fine spiciness, notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and a hint of oak. The aromas are intense and multi-layered, underlining the special character and maturity of this wine. On the palate, the Commemorative Pinotage 2021 is powerful and well-structured, with supple tannins and a harmonious balance between fruit and wood. The fruity notes continue, complemented by nuances of spice, coffee and a hint of vanilla resulting from 16 months of ageing in oak barrels. The finish is long-lasting and elegant, with a slight smoky note that gives the wine additional depth.

The Lanzerac Commemorative Pinotage 2021 is an excellent accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as lamb, beef and game. It is also an ideal accompaniment to mature cheese and rich braised dishes.

Lanzerac Wine Estate

Lanzerac Pinotage
The grapes for the Lanzerac Pinotage come from vineyards located at an altitude of between 400 and 420 meters above sea level. The prevailing wind here helps to cool the grapes in hot summers. The soils consist mainly of decomposed granite, which favors the deep growth of the vines and the soil retains water better.Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with regular pumping over. First, second and third-fill oak barrels were used to mature the Lanzerac Pinotage. Maturation took place over a period of 15 months. At this point, the optimal integration between wood and fruit was complete. The result is an excellent color and a scent of ripe berries and plums. On the palate, the red wine is velvety dense, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced. Aromas of high-quality chocolate and notes of caramel delight the palate with wonderfully integrated tannins.Enjoy the Lanzerac Pinotage with venison medallions in plum sauce or an Asian curry dish.

Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage 2022
Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage - South Africa's icon in its purest formAn "icon" wine is the name given to a wine that has held an exceptional position for years. And this is exactly what the Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage has achieved. This South African Pinotage can rightly claim to be something very special. The grapes come from 63-year-old bushvine vines, the name given to vines that grow in bush form in South Africa. This means that the vines grow naturally, with the winemaker only intervening in nature by pruning. The vines thrive on dry soils characterized by decomposed granite and weathered rock. The yield per hectare is extremely low at 2.8 tons, which ensures a high level of complexity in the wine.Fermentation took place in open concrete vats. The mash was manually pressed every 2 hours and the juice was extracted from the skins after 3.5 days. Maturation took place for 18 months in 100% new French barrique barrels. As a result, the Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage achieves complex aromas of black cherry, plum and dark chocolate with a hint of cedar on the nose. On the palate, it is full with a velvety tannin structure and notes of red and black fruits. The finish is long-lasting and intense. The Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage is an excellent accompaniment to red meat or spicy Asian cuisine.

Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage
Diesel Pinotage is certainly an unusual name for a wine. However, it quickly becomes clear when you know the story behind it. Diesel was the name of Beyers Truters, owner of Beyerskloof, dog and a beloved and loyal, constant companion of his master. The dog was not only to be found in the vineyard, but also in the cellar or next to the desk. So it was clear for Beyers Truter to name his best wine after his "best" friend. The grapes for the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage come from bushvine vines. This type of cultivation is frequently used in South Africa, especially for Pinotage. The fermentation process took place over 5 days in open barrels at an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. The mash was pressed down every 2 hours. Malolactic fermentation then took place in stainless steel tanks. New French oak barrels were used for the 21-month maturation. Of the 300 barrels filled, only 20 barrels were ultimately selected for the Diesel Pinotage. The color of the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is deep purple. The bouquet is characterized by complex blackberry aromas and dark fruits, surrounded by an elegant cedar wood note. The palate reveals a fine but complex structure of black and red fruits. A truly great red wine that impresses with an excellent balance of fruit and wood. A wine with outstanding potential that will continue to give pleasure in 10 years or more. The ideal accompaniment to spicy Indian dishes or a well-matured rump steak. Beyerskloof Diesel is probably one of the best Pinotage from the Cape.

Seña Eduardo Chadwick 2021
Seña 2021 is an iconic red wine from Chile, more precisely from the Aconcagua Valley, around 100 kilometers north of Santiago. This valley offers ideal conditions for viticulture due to its location and climate. Seña is a joint project between the famous Chilean winemaker Eduardo Chadwick and the Mondavi family from California, which was launched in 1995. The aim was to create a wine that is on a par with top international wines in terms of quality and expressiveness, but with a clear Chilean identity. The wine comes from biodynamically cultivated vineyards that thrive on stony, mineral-rich soils. These soils, combined with the high altitude and cool Pacific breezes, allow the grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in a perfect balance between fruit, acidity and tannin. The Seña 2021 is a masterful cuvée, dominated by 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Malbec, 17% Carménère and 6% Petit Verdot. On the nose, it immediately seduces with a complex bouquet of blackcurrants, cherries and plums, accompanied by subtle nuances of tobacco, cedar and a hint of chocolate. Hints of balsamic vinegar and fresh herbs also lend the wine a remarkable depth. On the palate, the Seña 2021 is full-bodied and powerful, yet elegant at the same time. The ripe tannins are finely integrated and give the wine structure and longevity. The fruit is juicy and concentrated, with notes of dark berries, accompanied by spicy accents and a subtle hint of mint and black pepper. Its well-integrated acidity gives the wine a lively freshness that does not make it appear too heavy despite its intensity. The finish is long, complex and leaves behind a pleasant minerality. The Seña 2021 once again confirms its reputation as one of the best wines in Chile and perhaps the entire New World. It combines the elegance and structure of the best Bordeaux wines with the powerful fruit and spice typical of the Aconcagua Valley. Although it is already impressive, it will certainly continue to grow in complexity and harmony over the coming decades. A great wine for special occasions as well as hearty dishes such as lamb, beef or game.

Tignanello Toscana IGT 2021
Parker: 98/100; Galloni 98/100.

Delaire Graff Estate Banghoek Reserve Merlot
The Delaire Graff Estate Banghoek Reserve Merlot is an expressive red wine from one of South Africa's best-known vineyards. In the middle of the majestic Banghoek Valley - a region that owes its name "De Bange Hoek" (the "terrible corner") to former pioneers - the Merlot grapes thrive in the highest vineyards of the Delaire Graff Estate. The special combination of altitude, slope and soil structure creates the ideal conditions for exceptionally concentrated, aromatic berries. The grapes for this Merlot are harvested exclusively by hand in the cool early morning hours. After careful selection, the grapes are gently destemmed and partially crushed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 24°C and 26°C in open fermenters, supported by a targeted combination of punchdowns and pumpovers to extract the best possible color, structure and aromas. After primary fermentation, the wine spends a further four to six weeks on the skins at 16°C - a technique that adds depth and silky tannins. The Delaire Graff Merlot then matures for 16 months in 70% new French oak barrels - this gives it structure, ageing potential and complex spicy notes without overpowering the fruit. The wine is a deep ruby red in the glass. The nose reveals complex aromas of dark plums, juicy wild berries and a hint of fine spice. On the palate, the Merlot is dense and elegant, with ripe, polished tannins and remarkable balance. The structure is firm but supple, the finish is long and characterized by dark fruit and subtle oak spice. This elegant Merlot is an ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as braised leg of lamb, fillet of beef or duck breast. It also impresses with mature hard cheese or a lentil curry with roasted aromas.
