Der Alvi´s Drift 221 Chenin Blanc stammt aus der Region Western Cape in Südafrika und hat eine blasse strohähnliche Farbe. Der Weißwein präsentiert sich mit einer einladenden, fruchtbetonten Nase von reifen Pfirsichen, Zitronen und einem Hauch von Geißblatt. Der Gaumen ist reich strukturiert, geprägt von elektrisierender Säure, wunderschön ausbalanciert, gipfelnd in einem wunderschönen, anhaltenden Abgang. Warum 221?
Der Gründer des Weinguts Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe, von seinen Freunden „Alvi“ genannt, war 1928 als 19-jähriger der 221. Spieler der für die Springboks - Südafrikas Rugby-Nationalmannschaft – als Spieler ausgewählt wurde. Er schaffte Historisches indem ihm der erste „Versuch“ (im englischen Try) gegen die damals schon übermächtige Mannschaft der All Blacks (neuseeländische Rugby-Nationalteam) gelang. Gegen die sogenannten „Unbesiegbaren“ war das natürlich etwas ganz besonders. Mit der 221-Reihe zollen das Weingut Alvi´s Drift dem Patriarchen Oupa Alvi und den siegreichen südafrikanischem Rugbyteam Springbok Tribut.

Christine Rudman is full of praise for the Creation Estate Cool Climate Chenin Blanc in John Platter's Wine Guide. The wine critic awards 93 points (4.5 stars) for this white wine from South Africa. The bouquet of this outstanding Chenin Blanc has a multi-layered aroma of ginger, tomato leaf, apple peel and honey. Notes of lime and quince also enrich the bouquet.The interplay of aromas continues to unfold on the palate: fresh green apple and the creaminess of coconut milk in the background. "Becomes more mineral, more salty on the palate, subtle influence of oak, adds texture rather than flavor," Rudman judges.The grapes for the Creation Estate Cool Climate Chenin Blanc come from a 15-year-old vineyard in the higher and therefore cooler part of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Dornier Moordernaarskloof Chenin Blanc

The Moordenaarskloof Chenin Blanc comes from a unique vineyard on the Keerweerder estate, on the slopes of the Stellenbosch Mountains. This small but versatile parcel is characterized by three different soil types, which give the wine remarkable complexity and depth. Since its planting in 1986 at the foot of the Moordenaarskloof at an altitude of 230 meters, the vineyard has been characterized by a natural balance of growth and yield, which is reflected in the quality of the grapes.The grapes are harvested by hand in the cool morning hours at the beginning of February and gently pressed. After a cold, natural clarification of the must, fermentation takes place in old 300-liter French oak barrels. The wine remains on the lees until bottling, which gives it a creamy texture and a special fullness. Gentle production with minimal intervention guarantees the authentic expression of the terroir and the Chenin Blanc variety.In the glass, the Dornier Moordenaarskloof Chenin Blanc is a light, pale straw yellow.
