Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac AOP 2018

"Konzentriertes, gut opulentes, cremiges, komplexes Bouquet, Brombeergelee, Damassinepflaumen, Dörrfrüchte, Schwarztee, Korinthen, Lakritze, fein Caramel, Kandis, Minze.

Kunz: 20/20 Punkte; James Suckling: 98/100 Punkte; Falstaff: 99/100 Punkte.

Château Malescasse is a reflection of this exceptional vintage. Malescasse, owned by Philippe Austruy since 2012, has been on an admirable upward trajectory ever since. The dedication and investments that have benefited Malescasse have now been rewarded with its classification as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2020.The wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. This red wine impresses with deep, dark hues and violet highlights. On the nose, it offers notes of black cherry, blackberry, caramel, and a hint of mint. Overall, it offers plenty of intensity, abundant fruit, and a creaminess and sweetness that nonetheless do not lack complexity. So, this is no “fruit compote,” but rather a lush bouquet, balanced by fine tannins and a very long finish. This charmer still has a long life ahead of it and will benefit from being allowed to rest a while until it has fully developed in the bottle. This should be the case around 2025. However, those who simply can’t wait should decant the Château Malescasse at least 1–1½ hours in advance.Due to its intensity, this is a wine that’s particularly impressive on its own. But it also pairs wonderfully with game, goulash, or pasta.

Château Roc de Segur Bordeaux AOC 2019
This classic red Bordeaux comes from Entre-Deux-Mers, the region between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, and we can attest to its exceptional value for money. The excellent 2019 vintage, which ranks alongside 2015, 2016 and 2018, naturally plays an important role in this. The vines of this cuvée, which consists of 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, are on average over 30 years old. The Roc de Segur is vinified in steel tanks and matures there for a further 10 months, which gives this grape juice an extraordinary freshness and fruitiness.Raspberries and many other red fruit aromas greet us on the nose. The body is full-bodied and well-structured, with silky and already well-integrated tannins. The finish is impressively long. This wine is just as convincing on its own as it is in combination with braised, grilled or matured cheese. However, as it is still quite young, allow the Roc de Segur to decant for at least an hour. In return, however, it should have a shelf life of several years.

Trapiche Finca Orellana de Escobar 2018
The Trapiche Terroir Series Malbec Finca Orellana De Escobar is a creation from more than 50 years old vines. It has a red-purple color and a strong mineral character, punctuated by graphite and ink notes. The nose is intense and perfumed with violet and black pepper. Concentrated and juicy in the mouth, with tastes of bright fruit such as blackberries, currants and morello cherries. The finish is intense, long and lingering with ripe tannins. The wine matured 18 months in new French oak barrels. Enjoy it with dishes prepared with red meats and game cooked in a plow disc, hard cheeses and smoked cold.A wonderful wine from La Consulta in Mendoza. Luis Gutierrez writes in the „Wine Advocate“: “Some wines in the Terroir Series, which reflects the grapes of small suppliers throughout the province of Mendoza, are simply phenomenal.”

Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus Ex Machina AOC 2022
The Clos Saint Jean Deus ex machina 2022 is an iconic wine from the renowned Clos Saint Jean winery in the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The term "Deus ex machina", which means "God from the machine", symbolizes a turn for the better, the solution to a problem or simply the change in a situation due to something unforeseen. In this case, it was the arrival of oenologist Phillipe Cambie in 2003, who radically transformed the style of Clos Saint Jean into an even higher quality, more individual character and knew how to get the best out of the already brilliant terroir. The Deus ex machina comes from the La Crau vineyard in the north of the château, which is planted with Grenache vines over 100 years old. Accordingly, the cuvée consists of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre. The wine is matured in stainless steel barrels and then aged in new oak.The Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus ex machina 2022 pleases the eye with a dark violet color. The nose smells of black cherries, truffles, new leather, violets and lots of herbs, smoke, with traces of cedar and some vanilla due to the use of new wood during the post-maturing process. The palate is highly intense, concentrated, yet very creamy and velvety, in an overall very opulent, yet fresh style. This is mirrored by the extremely long finish.A racy Châteauneuf-du-Pape with high expectations, which it more than fulfills. It will be ready to drink from around 2024-2028, with a very long life perspective.Robert Parker 98/100 ("strong candidate for best wine of the vintage"); Jeb Dunnuck 96/100.

L'Hospitalet de Gazin Pomerol AOC
The l'Hospitalet de Gazin Pomerol comes from the famous Château Gazin, a neighbor of Pétrus from the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux. The l'Hospitalet de Gazin Pomerol 2021 is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its grapes were hand-picked and the wine matured for 18 months in oak barrels. What we particularly like about l'Hospitalet is that this wine has great ageing potential, but can also be a lot of fun to drink in its youth after at least an hour of decanting. The l'Hospitalet de Gazin is very well balanced and harmonious. It shows multi-layered aromas, including plums, tobacco, lots of blackberry, blackcurrant, some leather and chocolate; the tannins are present, but already have an excellent smoothness. The finish is long and spicy.Excellent for food pairing with braised and grilled meats, entrecôte, steak and, of course, as a solo wine.

Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc AOP
The Château La Nerthe estate is one of the most venerable wineries of the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and with its 222 acres of vineyards one of the largest estates in this region. The estate’s history dates back to the 14th century. From the beginning, the Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape has been synonymous with outstanding wines from the Côtes du Rhône region. This also applies to the excellent 2020 vintage. The fully ripe grapes were harvested by hand so that they could preserve their balance and full aromas. The pressing occurred carefully and under constant control. The fermentation was also meticulously carried out at low temperatures in order to maintain the aromas. The Roussanne grapes were aged in oak casks, of which one third were new barrels. The La Nerthe 2020 is a cuvée consisting of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc, and was produced on a purely organic basis. The wine matured for 9 months, remaining in contact with the yeast. It was blended only a short time before bottling. The Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 is a pale lemon in colour. On the nose, it offers aromas of stone fruit (peach, apricot) and white flowers. It is wonderfully complex on the palate, showing notes of citrus fruit (lime) and exotic fruit (pineapple, mango), with a good balance between acidity and richness. The wine is elegant, with an expressive finish that offers long-lasting, spicy and mineral notes. The Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 is a wonderful and harmonious accompaniment to fish with butter sauce, seafood and poultry.

Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous AOC 2021
The Clos Saint Jean Chateauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous 2021, made from grapes from the "La Crau" hillside vineyard of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate Clos Saint Jean, is one of the outstanding Châteauneuf du Pape wines of recent years. Vincent and Pascal Maurel, now the fifth generation of the Maurel family, are unwaveringly continuing the tradition of the renowned château. Their ancestor, Edmont Tacussel, planted this site between 1905 and 1910, and the vines are still there today. As the vineyard was so riddled with huge pebbles and it was actually hopeless to work the vines here on horseback, the site was named "La Combe des Fous", the hill of the madmen. In the end, this vineyard turned out to be one of, if not the best vineyard in the entire region, and the wines that come from here are top-class Châteauneuf-du-Pape.Very low yields, hand-picking and vines over 100 years old are the stuff dreams are made of. The blend consists of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and a further 10% Vaccarese. The Grenache is aged for 9 months in concrete tanks, while the other grape varieties are matured for 9 months in exclusively new oak barrels.Lots of fruit on the nose; very black berry, spicy, cassis, lots of black cherry, herbs, some forest floor, tea, tobacco and mocha. The palate is fresh, harmonious and well-balanced. Tannins and acidity are elegantly and delicately balanced with the impressive fruit aromas. The finish is wonderfully long and makes the 2021 La Combe des Fous a lasting experience.

Opus One 2019
