Sure, many will consider it daring to design a wine label bearing a bomb. But that's Charles Smith - always going to extremes. With the Boom Boom! Syrah (Shiraz), ‘image’ is the name of the game. The label was designed by the Danish artist Rikke Korff and is meant to express what awaits wine lovers: a powerful and intense red wine. The wine comes from the American state of Washington in the Pacific Northwest. It is a dark cherry red in colour. The Boom Boom! Syrah (Shiraz) has a wonderful bouquet offering notes of wild berries, lavender, vanilla and white pepper. This red wine is extremely rich on the palate, showing lots of power. Thanks to the well-integrated tannins, the fleshy fruit aromas remain in the mouth for a long time. This interaction continues unabatedly in the finish. The Charles Smith Boom Boom! Syrah (Shiraz) is ideal for those who love powerful and intense wines.

It goes wonderfully with grilled dishes, roast meat with dark sauces or hearty cheeses such as Blue Stilton and Roquefort.

With this wine, the ‘director’ created ‘Hollywood at its finest’, in which small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot join in as extras.Coppola puts special emphasis on those little things worthy of a Director’s Cut. A special, careful fermentation, 15 months of ageing in French and American oak casks and a meticulous selection of the grapes in each plot are the ‘special effects’ used by Coppola and his oenologist Cory Beck.The result is a powerful ‘epic’, offering aromas of black currants, plums and black cherries as well as notes of cigar-box on the nose. The wine is opulent and well-defined on the palate, showing lots of red and black fruit and notes of tobacco, leather and vanilla. The grapes for the Lanzerac Syrah (Shiraz) come from the Jonkershoek valley, located in the wine-growing region of Stellenbosch. The vines were planted in 2003 and 2004. They grow on soils that consist mainly of deep granite and clay, giving the wine its fine minerality. The Lanzerac Syrah is a typical deep red with purple glints in the glass. The wine is powerful and full-bodied on the palate, showing notes of white pepper, plums, coriander and hints of Malayan curry. The ripe, multi-layered fruitiness of red and black berries give it a great complexity.
