Only a few wines are awarded an impressive 96 points: The Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva Rioja is one of them. Initially, the wine is redolent of red berries such as raspberries, fine spice aromas (cinnamon) and nuances of toasted wood. The bouquet is subsequently enriched by hints of cedar, vanilla and autumn leaves. The Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva Rioja is young and fresh on the palate, with a balanced acidity, fine tannins and a great elegance.

Luis Gutiérrez is full of praise for this wine in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ‘It has very healthy and balanced parameters, and that's what the wine feels like. It’s still young. It's never a dark wine, more of a ruby or bright colour, and it has a nose of youth, subtle and elegant. But the quality shows in the unbelievable elegance and harmony on the palate, where the tannins are very fine, the flavours are subtle but deep and the length is just phenomenal.’

Eighty per cent Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and smaller percentages of Mazuelo and Graciano unite here in outstanding interaction. Each grape variety was separately aged in wooden casks. The Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva Rioja matured for 36 months in French oak casks. You’ll enjoy discovering a red wine that ranks among the top wines of the world.

De Toren Fusion V

Wenn man einen der absoluten Spitzenweine aus Südafrika probieren möchte, kommt man am De Toren Fusion V nicht vorbei. Die V steht dabei für die 5 im Wein verwendeten Bordeaux Rebsorten. Die Qualität lässt sich mit den großen Weinen aus dem Bordeaux durchaus messen. Nach der Handlese und Selektion der Trauben schloss sich eine lange schonende Gärung an. Die Reifung fand über einen Zeitraum von 12 Monaten in zu 50% neuen und 50% Fässern zweiter Füllung statt. Dabei kamen Fässer von 225 Litern Größe zum Einsatz. (90% französische und 10% amerikanische) Im Glas ein klares Violett mit leichtem Funkeln. Die Nase ist geprägt von Blaubeere, Zeder, Schwarzkirsche, Bitterschokolade und einem Hauch Fennel. Am Gaumen offeriert der De Toren Fusion V eine seidige Fülle mit einem Hauch süßer Frucht. Das Gesamtpaket aus wohl integrierten Tanninen, lang anhaltender Tiefe, fester Struktur und Mineralität machen diesen Wein zu einem Spitzenprodukt.

The Muga Reserva Selection Special unites notes of black fruit, balsamic nuances and a fine spice (white pepper) in its wonderfully multi-layered bouquet. The bouquet is complemented by roast aromas, hints of coffee and a fine minerality. This elegant blend, consisting of Tempranillo and smaller percentages of Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, is velvety and silky on the palate, with noticeable but wonderfully integrated tannins, a remarkable freshness and a lovely acidity. The finish of this full-bodied wine is long-lasting.The Muga Reserva Selection Special matured for 26 months in oak casks. It is a wonderful accompaniment to grilled red meat and lamb.

Aalto PS

How do you make an excellent wine even better? For Mariano García Fernández, the founder of the Bodega Aalto estate, this can be achieved only by selecting the best grapes. The selection of the grapes was carried out parcel by parcel. This explains the wine’s ‘PS’ designation, which stands for ‘parcel’ and ‘selection’. Only the grapes from the best parcels with the oldest vines are selected to produce the Aalto PS. The grapes for this pure varietal Tempranillo come partly from vines that are more than 60 years old. The vines grow on soils with lime and slate subsoils, giving the wine a lovely mineral freshness. The wine is aged in steel tanks before it matures for 21 months in new French barriques. Subsequently, the wine is aged for another 6 months in used casks. The Aalto PS is a dark, dense purple in colour. Its bouquet is characterised by strong notes of wood and flavours of plums and black cherries. On the palate, the wine is extremely complex, concentrated and powerful. The body continues unabated in a never-ending finish. Although the wine is already quite balanced, further ageing in the bottle will certainly enhance its quality. Serve the Aalto PS with lamb, game or tangy cheeses. This wine is a genuine delight! It is also available in a magnum bottle.
