The Crozes-Hermitage appellation is located in the northern part of the Rhone valley. All red wines produced in this appellation are based on the Shiraz grape variety, the only red variety authorised here.

The Vidal-Fleury Crozes-Hermitage is a dark red in colour. Its bouquet is redolent of black currants, violets and plums, complemented by notes of pepper and roast aromas. The soil of the vineyards in the Crozes-Hermitage area consists mainly of granite, giving the wine its lovely minerality. This red wine is soft and fresh on the palate, showing lots of black fruit. The finish is round and long-lasting. The 18 months of ageing in wooden casks and in the bottle gives the wine its high ageing potential, so that it will remain a delight over the next 10 years.

The Crozes-Hermitage from the Vidal-Fleury winery goes beautifully with grilled dishes, game and pork cutlets with herbes de Provence. It is also a good accompaniment to medium-strong cheeses such as Morbier or aged feta, for example.

Château de Pitray Côtes de Castillon 2016
The Château de Pitray of the 2015 vintage is simply a sensation in terms of quality and good value for money. The 2015 vintage is considered the outstanding vintage in the Bordelais region. It produced the best grapes ever in the Bordeaux region’s modern history, alongside 2009 and 2010. The winery is located in Gardegan in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation with its plateaus composed of limestone and clay, situated on the right bank of the Gironde River, just 8 kilometres from Saint-Émilion. This splendid Château has been owned by the Pitray family for 600 years. It would be a worthy setting for every Harry Potter film. The remarkable limestone and clay soils provide excellent conditions for the Merlot grapes that make up 75% of this assemblage. The cuvée of the 2016 de Pitray further consists of 23% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. In the vineyards, interventions in nature are minimised as far as possible; herbicides are not used, for example. The wine matured for 12 months in barriques and offers impressive harmony and elegance. The 2016 Château Pitray can already be enjoyed now but will be a real delight over the next 5-8 years. We recommend decanting the wine at least one hour before drinking it. The wine offers lovely aromas of dark, ripe fruit such as bilberries, blackberries and wild strawberries, wonderfully accompanied by round, fine tannins. Nothing is in the wrong place here. The notes of wood emphasise the wine’s finesse without drowning it. The 2016 Château Pitray has a well-defined, precise bouquet with blackberry and crushed strawberry fruit, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, not much depth here, but very well balanced with a silky smooth finish. This comes highly recommended, since it is usually well priced. The Château de Pitray 2016 is an ideal accompaniment to grilled dishes, game, meat loaf, roast beef and cheeses. It is also lovely on its own to enjoy with friends.

Château La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge AOP
This Côtes du Rhône Villages AOP is an extraordinary wine. The team of the La Nerthe winery, which has been based in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region since the 14th century, maintains the Les Cassagnes vineyards located in Sérignan-du-Comtat, France. The grapes for this wine are selected exclusively from the best parcels of land. The soil consists of sand, clay and limestone, providing natural filtration and creating full-bodied, well-balanced wines. The grapes come from vines with an average age of more than 40 years. This cuvée consists mainly of Grenache Noir, Shiraz and a smaller percentage of Mourvèdre. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a further selection process upon arrival in the cellar. Subsequently, the grape varieties are fermented separately for a period of three weeks. The extraction is carried out very carefully in order to maintain the fruit aromas and to preserve a good tannin structure. Before bottling, the wine finally matures for 9 months in stainless steel tanks, remaining in contact with the yeast. The Les Cassagnes AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge is a deep, dark red in colour. On the palate, it impresses wine connoisseurs with an appealing body that’s not overly full, showing a very silky texture. Aromas of red berries, wonderful notes recalling perfume and sweet nuances of spices lead to an exquisite, prolonged finish.Served at a drinking temperature of 14-16°C (57.2-60.8 °F), the Les Cassagnes goes beautifully with grilled lamb or beef, pasta Bolognese or ratatouille. We recommend enjoying this wine with ‘Tian’, a vegetable gratin speciality from the Provence region, made of tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, thyme and oregano. Simply delicious!
