The bouquet of the Niepoort Tawny Port in 0.375-litre bottle is characterised by fine aromas of nuts and nuances of dried fruit. The relatively young wine is an assemblage of different vintages. It matured on average for three and a half years in small oak casks in the Niepoort wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. The Tawny Port is young and fruity on the palate, with an expressive finish.The traditional Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz grape varieties and others unite to create this special taste experience. They come from vines with an average age of more than 30 years. The Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano grape varieties unite here to create the wonderful Muga Reserva Rioja. This red wine is redolent of blackberries and fennel, complemented by fine roast aromas and lovely nuances of vanilla, coffee and white chocolate. The Rioja is impressively full-bodied and aromatic on the palate, offering the fruitiness of berries, hints of menthol and an elegant acidity. The finish is long-lasting. The Muga Reserva Rioja matured for 24 months in oak casks (medium toast) and for at least another 12 months in the bottle. Wine critic Luis Gutiérrez is impressed by this wine and awards it 91 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ‘It has the telltale aromas of spices and berry fruit, with the Muga signature and a medium-bodied palate with some dusty tannins that would welcome food.’ Try this Rioja with veal, cold cuts (pork) or rather hearty stews, for example. An all round crowd pleaser and extremely versatile bubbly crafted from a selection of the classic MCC varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Both varietals were hand-picked: Chardonnay at 18-19.5°B for fruit and elegance and Pinot Noir at 18.5-20°B for complexity and length of flavour. In the cellar whole bunch pressing ensures fractional recovery. After settling of the juice the two varieties are fermented separately. They are then cross-blended along with reserve wine if necessary, bottled and left for 15 to 18 months yeast contact time before disgorgement. Light yeasty aromas and secondary tones of limey fresh fruit on the nose with rich creamy complexity on the palate. The exceptionally fine mousse contributes freshness and finesse.
