The winery Penfolds is one of the pillars of the Australian wine industry - since 1844. In this year, Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold founded the winery in South Australia. As a retreat served him and his family a country house in Magill on the outskirts of Adelaide: Rawson's Retreat.

The Penfolds-range Rawson's Retreat shows this country house on the label. And the contents of the bottles holds true Penfolds quality. The range offers fruity, approachable wines that will be drunk young. The Rawson's Retreat Merlot has a purple color. The nose offers aromas of cherries, violets and plums. On the palate wonderfully fresh, with soft tannins. The finale offers notes of oak, for the 100%-Merlot partly matured for a short time in oak barrels.

Enjoy this fine wine with grilled meats, lamb and many pasta dishes.

Der Drostdy-Hof Merlot hat eine tiefrote Farbe und ist geprägt von Erdbeer- und Kirscharomen. Der trockene Rotwein lagerte für kurze Zeit im Holzfass, was ihm zusätzliche Noten von Vanille und Kräutern verleiht. Die typische Fruchtigkeit der Rebsorte Merlot findet sich auch hier wieder. Der mittlere Körper ist rund und weich. Der Abgang ist harmonisch und frisch fruchtig. Ein Gaumenschmeichler aus Südafrika wie er im Buche steht.Der Drostdy-Hof Merlot lässt sich wunderbar solo genießen, kann aber auch zu leichtem Wild oder Pasta genossen werden.

The Holden Manz Vernissage is a cuvée consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety gives the wine a lovely structure and particularly elegant tannins. Shiraz and Merlot provide notes of spices and fruit aromas, which are mainly characterised by nuances of dark cherries and plums. The wine is a light ruby-red, developing into a clear red towards the rim in the glass. The Holden Manz Vernissage has a balanced acidity and shows vivid aromas of cassis, tobacco and spice, giving the wine a very good balance. Its finish is soft and long-lasting. Winemaker Thierry Haberer selected the grapes from various vineyards with different types of soil. The grapes were harvested when fully ripe, thus giving the wine a wonderful complexity. After the careful blending of the single batches and grape varieties and the numerous tastings involved, Thierry finally created this expressive, balanced and very fruity Holden Manz Vernissage. The wine matured for 18 months in 225-litre French oak casks. Enjoy the wine with lamb stews with garlic sauce or grilled polenta.

The Merlot grape is one of the most popular grape varieties ever and is cultivated almost all over the world. It is, however, very difficult to make a top-quality wine from these grapes. With its Höhenflug Merlot, the Hensel winery succeeded in this. The grapes for this wine are harvested as late as possible to capture the last rays of sunshine of the year, resulting in a very concentrated wine that is an intense cherry-red in colour. The wine has a wonderful bouquet offering fragrances of ripe morello cherries and bilberries, complemented by nuances of elder and slightly smoky notes. On the palate, the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot shows lots of melt and an exotic spice. This Merlot was aged in new barriques, giving the wine noticeable but soft tannins, richness and powerful body. This is a red wine from the Palatinate to fall in love with.Try the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot with duck breast or fried chicken. It is also an ideal accompaniment to various cheeses.
