The wines of the19 Crimes line cast a spell over every connoisseur: they recall people convicted of crimes in Britain who were exiled to Australia beginning in the late 18th century. The 19 Crimes "The Banished - Dark Red" from South Australia offers notes of grape jam, blackberries, plums and baking spices in its wonderfully multi-layered bouquet, along with harmonious aromas of dark chocolate, oak and vanilla. This blend, consisting of Grenache and Shiraz, is full-bodied and pleasantly round on the palate, showing lovely fruit and spice.
The red wine was aged in American oak casks and has a long-lasting finish. This wine leaves a distinctive impression, like the former convicts, who in many cases didn’t succumb to despair but had a formative impact on a country that was new to them. The winemakers themselves write, ‘It would be a crime not to drink this wine.’
