The 2020 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blends grapes from various vineyards in the Napa Valley into a cuvée of remarkable depth and harmony. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and a small percentage of Malbec. Despite challenging conditions, the 2020 vintage produced wines that impressively reflect the concentration, balance, and diversity of the Napa Valley.

Following a dry winter, spring rains and favorable weather conditions ensured a promising growing season. Cool mornings and sunny afternoons throughout the summer allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Careful selection and grapes sourced from various terroirs across the Napa Valley form the foundation for this wine’s complexity and depth.

The nose reveals aromas of black and blue fruits with notes of plum and blueberry, accompanied by subtle hints of sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is elegant and balanced, with silky tannins that lend structure without overpowering the fruit. The multi-layered aromas unfold harmoniously, leading to a long, refined finish. With optimal storage, the wine has an aging potential through at least 2042.

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs excellently with grilled beef, braised lamb, or game dishes. It also shines when paired with aged Cheddar or other spicy hard cheeses.

The grapes were harvested precisely at the optimum time for ripening, which is reflected in the intense aromas and balance of the wine.Silver Oak has stood for an unmistakable style since its foundation: the wine, consisting of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, as well as some Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, matures exclusively in American oak. It was then matured in the bottle for a further 15 months before being released for sale. The result is a wine of high concentration, remarkable depth and great ageing potential - at least 20 years of ageing is considered realistic for this vintage. The careful vinification and craftsmanship are reflected in the flawless structure and elegance of the wine.In the glass, the wine presents itself in a dark purple red with dense color intensity. So hat jeder Jahrgang seinen eigenen Charakter und seine individuellen Eigenschaften.Beim 2018er Quintessa lautet das Stichwort: Harmonie. Dieser Rebsaft ist immer ein Monolith der Frucht und der Sonne; hinzu kommt aber in 2018 noch eine unglaubliche Ausgewogenheit und Balance seines Wesens, die ihn ein weiteres Mal in die oberste Liga im Napa Valley katapultieren.Das Wetter in 2018 war in Rutherford, der Heimat des Quintessas, frei von jedweden Extremen und durchgängig mild. Der Herbst, die Erntezeit, lies allen Raum um präzise zur richtigen Zeit zu ernten, ohne jeden Druck, so dass eine perfekte Reife gewährleistet werden konnte.Intensive Aromen von Cassis, Schwarzkirsche, Himbeeren, etwas Salbei und Thymian, dunkle Schokolade, Graphit und frischer Tabak verbinden sich mit einem Korb von roten und schwarzen Früchten zu einem extrem harmonischen Gesamtkunstwerk. Nicht zuletzt der Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon hat dazu beigetragen, dass die Weine aus dem Napa Valley weltweit zu den herausragenden Kreationen zählen. Auch im Jahrgang 2017 haben die Macherinnen und Macher von Freemark Abbey einen Cabernet Sauvignon komponiert, der von der internationalen Weinkritik gefeiert wird.Der Rotwein aus den USA duftet eindrucksvoll vielschichtig nach Brombeeren, Kirschen und Milchschokolade. Das Bouquet wird darüber hinaus bereichert durch Noten von Zedern und Kräutern der Provence sowie süßlichen Eichennoten.Lisa Perrotti-Brown vergibt in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 92 Punkte für den Freemark Abbey Cabernet. Ihre Worte: „Der Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offenbart frische Brombeeren, Schwarze Johannisbeeren und schwarze Pflaumen mit einem Hauch von dunkler Schokolade, Menthol und fruchtbarer Erde.“Am Gaumen ist der dunkel-rubinrote Wein trocken und vollmundig, mit einem wunderbar angenehmen, weichen Mundgefühl. Intensive Aromen von Kirschen sind prägend. Der Blend aus überwiegend Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot und sehr kleinen Anteilen Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc besitzt eine großartige Textur, die Tannine sind meisterhaft eingebunden.  James Suckling vergibt 93 Punkte und findet: „Aromen von Blaubeeren, Johannisbeeren und Blumen folgen einem mittleren bis vollen Körper, festen und seidigen Tanninen und einem köstlichen Abgang. Zeigt einige Haselnuss- und Walnuss-Untertöne. Sehr fein abgestimmt.“Mehr als zwei Jahre reifte dieser edle Wein aus den USA im Eichenholz. Freemark Abbey, etwas mehr als 100 Kilometer nördlich von San Francisco gelegen, setzte dabei zu einem kleinen Anteil neue Fässer ein.
