The Opus One Overture 2022 is an elegant second wine from Opus One that combines balance, freshness and depth in perfect harmony. Carefully vinified from selected Estate grapes, it shows the characteristic precision and elegance of the winery. The 2022 harvest required special attention due to changeable weather conditions and extreme temperatures, but the result is grapes of clear aromatic intensity and lively freshness.

In the glass, the Opus One Overture 2022 reveals a refined bouquet of bright cherries, wild berries and rose stems, enhanced by violets, roasted almonds and a hint of aniseed. The palate is lively, soft and structured at the same time, with blackberry, blueberry and wild cherries, underpinned by an invigorating acidity. A long, velvety finish with hints of mocha and black tea rounds off the experience and makes this vintage particularly fascinating.

The vinification follows the highest standards: around 20 days of maceration and 18 months in new French oak ensure depth, elegance and ageability. The cuvée of 94 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 % Cabernet Franc, 1.5 % Merlot, 1 % Malbec and 0.5 % Petit Verdot unfolds with harmonious finesse, promising both enjoyment in the here and now and ageing potential for years to come.

Served at 16-18 °C, Opus One Overture 2022 is the perfect accompaniment to fillet of beef, rack of lamb, game or braised mushroom and vegetable dishes. Every sip reveals the luxurious depth, minerality and aromatic clarity of this highly refined Napa Cabernet, which immediately seduces connoisseurs and lingers in the memory.

Opus One fasziniert Weinkenner in aller Welt. Die Zusammenarbeit der legendären „Weinvisionäre“ Baron Philippe de Rothschild und Robert Mondavi im kalifornischen Napa Valley bringt immer wieder herausragende, Cabernet-basierte Weine hervor.

Der Name Opus One steht sowohl für den Weinerzeuger Opus One Winery in Oakville im kalifornischen Napa-Valley als auch für den einzigen dort produzierten Wein.

Opus One ist einer der teuersten und höchst bewerteten Weine der USA. Das Ziel von Robert Mondavi und Baron Philippe de Rothschild, die nach einem Treffen 1970 ihre Zusammenarbeit begannen, war es, einen qualitativ hochwertigen und bordeauxtypischen Wein in Kalifornien zu erzeugen. Das ist zweifelsfrei gelungen, gilt Opus One in der Fachwelt doch als einer der besten kalifornischen Weine.

1978 wurden die Rahmenbedingungen für das neue Unternehmen festgelegt und 1980 stand die Gründung und die Vorstellung in der Öffentlichkeit an. Der erste Grundbesitz des Weinguts stammt aus dem Besitz von Robert Mondavi. Durch Ankäufe wurde die Rebfläche des Unternehmens kontinuierlich vergrößert und 2005 betrug sie bereits 110 Hektar. Seit 1991 besitzt Opus One auch eine eigene Kellerei. Geleitet wird Opus One Winery seit 2004 von Michael Silacci.

Opus One, the Californian high-flyer and joint child of wine legends Mondavi and Rothschild, is now producing an incomparable series of top vintages in succession. 2018 does not break this streak, but seamlessly continues and even surpasses some of the previous years.This is due in particular to the mild and very consistent weather conditions in 2018, which, apart from a little rain before bud break, were ideal and above all did not show the excessive heat that has often been seen in Napa Valley recently.The Opus One 2018 consists of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec and was aged for 17 months in new French oak barrels.Creamy, deep and heavenly fruity are associations that are often heard in connection with Opus One. The 2018 Opus One is no exception. The nose is black berry, cassis, lots of black cherry and blackberry, followed by elegant notes of violet, white pepper and rose petals. The seductive bouquet is supported by further aromas of black fruit, orange peel, licorice and dark chocolate. Everything is wonderfully balanced, with beautifully polished and round tannins. The finish is almost infinitely long.As is so often the case with Californians, the Opus One 2018 also manages to show a cellaring potential of several decades, but is still ready to drink very early. Diesen „Super-Toskaner“ braucht man eigentlich nicht mehr vorstellen. Italienische Eleganz, gepaart mit viel Finesse und feinster, vielschichtiger Aromatik bei balancierter Säure stehen auch beim 2021er Tignanello im Vordergrund, der 2021 fünfzig Jahre alt geworden ist. Nie auf der feisten und fetten Seite, nie erschlagend, und doch von majestätischer Figur, immer ausgewogen und höchst vielschichtig. Die Cuvée besteht aus 80 % Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon und 5% Cabernet Franc.  An der Nase viel dunkle Früchte, Zeder, Kräuter, Orange, Gewürze, süsser Pfeiffentabak und Pfeffer. Dies setzt sich am Gaumen fort, mit zusätzlichen Noten von Grapefruit, Himbeere, einem Korb voll dunkler und heller Kirschen, etwas Nelken und viel cremigen, sanften Tanninen. Im Hintergrund spinnt eine feine Säure ihre Fäden und hält die Komposition zusammen. Der Nachhall ist extrem lang und nicht enden wollend.  Der 2021er Tignanello bleibt dabei immer eine vollendet harmonische Hymne, ohne jegliche dissonante Noten.  Wieviel Hingabe und Perfektion diesem Wein zu Teil kommt, wird auch dadurch deutlich, dass er 17 Monate im Fass reift. Davon verbringt er 3 Monate während der malolaktischen Gärung in neutralem Holz und liegt anschließend noch 14 Monate zu 50% in Neufässern.  Es ist kein Wunder, dass auch in diesem Jahr das Flagschiff der Marchesi Antinori nahezu einhellig den Highscore der Kritiker abräumt (zu den Bewertungen siehe unten). Wer den Wein bereits heute gerne trinken möchte, sollte ihn mindestens für zwei Stunden vor dem Genuss dekantieren.  Ansonsten dürfte er, die Geduld des Besitzers vorausgesetzt, noch mehrere Dekaden Trinkfreude bereiten.  Parker: 98/100; Galloni 98/100.
