The Remelluri Yjar 2020 is the iconic flagship wine of the historic Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri winery and is considered one of Spain’s most exceptional single-vineyard wines. Named after the historic Yjar vineyard, the wine comes from high-altitude plots in the Rioja Alavesa, where calcareous soils, cool elevations, and a wide variety of old vines ensure a distinctive expression of the terroir.

The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously selected. Vinification is carried out plot by plot with the aim of reflecting the origin as precisely as possible. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, followed by a long aging in wooden barrels of various sizes, with elegance and expression of origin always taking center stage.

On the nose, the Yjar 2020 is complex and profound, with aromas of red and dark wild berries, sour cherries, violets, and Mediterranean herbs. These are complemented by complex hints of graphite, tobacco, spices, cedarwood, and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it is concentrated yet remarkably precise. The fruit is clear and fresh, supported by lively acidity and fine-grained tannins. Mineral nuances, spicy herbal aromas, and exceptional length lend the wine depth and tension. Despite its power, elegance always takes center stage.

The 2020 vintage is considered particularly well-balanced, combining freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity. The wine possesses enormous aging potential and will continue to develop over many years.

Pairs excellently with braised lamb, game dishes, beef tenderloin, Iberian pork, as well as aged hard cheeses and sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine.

Mit Remelluri macht Telmo Rodriguez Rioja als Hersteller origineller Terroirweine bekannt. Lange bevor sich die Familie Rodriguez auf Remelluri niederließ, wurde auf dem Anwesen bereits Wein hergestellt. Bereits im 14. Jahrhundert stellten hier Mönche Wein aus den Trauben der umliegenden Weinberge her. 1967 gelangte das Haus in die Hände von Jaime Rodriguez, dem Vater des Pioniers und eigenwilligen Winzers Telmo Rodriguez. Jaime nimmt sofort drastische Änderungen vor. Er beschloss, Wein nur aus Trauben seiner eigenen Weinberge herzustellen, was zu dieser Zeit in der Rioja außergewöhnlich war. Ziel ist es außerdem, die Weinberge möglichst naturnah zu bearbeiten, um den besonderen Charakter der Weinberge möglichst zu bewahren. Im Jahr 2010 wurden die Weinberge unter der Leitung von Telmo offiziell biologisch zertifiziert. Die Weinberge gehören zu den höchstgelegenen in der Rioja Alavesa. Sie liegen an den Hängen der Sierra de Toloño, nach Süden ausgerichtet und geschützt vor dem kalten Nordwind. Der steinige Boden mit Lehmschichten, die Niederschläge von der Atlantikküste und die unterdurchschnittlichen Temperaturen in Rioja sorgen für eine gute phenolische Reifung des Tempranillo. Einige der Weinberge sind sehr alt; Traditionell werden die Rebsorten auch in verschiedenen Weinbergen gemeinsam gepflanzt. Mit den Weinen von Remelluri möchte Telmo zeigen, dass Rioja über viele verschiedene Terroirs verfügt, die sich wunderbar in den Weinen zum Ausdruck bringen lassen.

The Macán is a single-varietal Tempranillo from Rioja, and the current vintage is yet another exceptional red wine.The bouquet of this Spanish red wine is fascinatingly multifaceted. It combines notes of blackberries and plums with subtle hints of licorice, tobacco, coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon. Floral notes (violets) and wonderfully harmonious oak round out the bouquet. James Suckling awards the 2018 Vega Sicilia Macán an impressive 95 points. The U.S. wine critic writes: “A beautiful, complex nose with soft spices, cedar, fresh blackberries, red plums, truffles, and a hint of walnuts and mocha.”On the palate, this creation from Vega Sicilia and Baron de Rothschild is dry and powerful, with expansive tannins and impressive fruitiness. The Macán was aged for 16 months in oak, with 55 percent of the aging taking place in barrique barrels and the remainder in large casks. The grapes come from vines that are nearly four decades old.
