The Emilio Moro Malleolus Ribera del Duero DO is an expressive premium red wine from Spain that showcases the Tempranillo grape variety—also known regionally as Tinto Fino—in its most refined form. The grapes come from select vineyards in Pesquera de Duero, whose stony soils lend the wine a unique balance of ripeness and freshness. With its powerful structure, aromatic depth, and elegant character, the Malleolus ranks among the most distinctive top wines from Bodegas Emilio Moro.
During production, the grapes are fermented on the skins for about 18 days. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and ages in French oak barrels, primarily with a capacity of 500 liters. This meticulous aging process lends the Tempranillo additional complexity and a subtly integrated spiciness, while preserving the fruit and the characteristic freshness of its terroir.
In the glass, the Emilio Moro Malleolus displays a deep cherry red with violet highlights. The intense bouquet reveals ripe dark fruits such as blackberries, plums, and blueberries, accompanied by subtle notes of French oak as well as balsamic hints of cedarwood and tobacco. On the palate, this full-bodied Spanish red wine is powerful yet silky, with great volume, polished tannins, and a balanced blend of ripeness and freshness. The long, elegant finish underscores its depth and sophisticated character.
As a versatile pairing for fine dining, the Malleolus harmonizes superbly with grilled beef, rack of lamb, braised meat dishes, and hearty roasts. This Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero is also an excellent choice with aged hard cheeses and aromatic Mediterranean meat dishes. The Emilio Moro Malleolus truly reveals its aromatic complexity and impressive structure, especially when paired with hearty dishes.
