The grapes for the Esporao Reserva Tinto DOC Alentejo, from the Alentejo wine region in Portugal, thrive on clay and loam soils with granite and slate bedrock. The grapes for this cuvée—comprising Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Syrah, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Touriga Franca—are harvested and crushed separately. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation. After blending, the dry wine ages for another 12 months in barriques made of 60% American oak and 40% French oak. The red wine from the Esporão winery then ages for another eight months in the bottle.
This intensely ruby-red wine offers a complex, lingering bouquet of plums, mint, and hints of clove. It is well-balanced on the palate, with velvety tannins that harmonize beautifully with the fruit. The finish is intense and elegant.
Enjoy the Esporão Reserva Tinto DOC Alentejo with pan-seared meat, grilled dishes, and game at a recommended serving temperature of 16–18 °C.
