Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge AOC

"Smooth on the outside and dense on the inside, like a billiard ball" schreiben die Maurels auf der Homepage über ihre Weine.

The Clos Saint Jean Chateauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous 2021, made from grapes from the "La Crau" hillside vineyard of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate Clos Saint Jean, is one of the outstanding Châteauneuf du Pape wines of recent years. Vincent and Pascal Maurel, now the fifth generation of the Maurel family, are unwaveringly continuing the tradition of the renowned château. Their ancestor, Edmont Tacussel, planted this site between 1905 and 1910, and the vines are still there today. As the vineyard was so riddled with huge pebbles and it was actually hopeless to work the vines here on horseback, the site was named "La Combe des Fous", the hill of the madmen. In the end, this vineyard turned out to be one of, if not the best vineyard in the entire region, and the wines that come from here are top-class Châteauneuf-du-Pape.Very low yields, hand-picking and vines over 100 years old are the stuff dreams are made of. The blend consists of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and a further 10% Vaccarese. The Grenache is aged for 9 months in concrete tanks, while the other grape varieties are matured for 9 months in exclusively new oak barrels.Lots of fruit on the nose; very black berry, spicy, cassis, lots of black cherry, herbs, some forest floor, tea, tobacco and mocha. The palate is fresh, harmonious and well-balanced. Tannins and acidity are elegantly and delicately balanced with the impressive fruit aromas. The finish is wonderfully long and makes the 2021 La Combe des Fous a lasting experience.

Clos Saint Jean Les Calades IGP
Les Calades is a red wine from the well-known Clos Saint Jean winery, the producer of outstanding Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines from France. Although this wine is not officially called Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it is an exceptionally high-quality red wine that the Maurel family, now the fifth generation to own Clos Saint Jean, produces with the same dedication and commitment as its larger wine brothers. The grapes for Les Calades are harvested by hand and during the harvest period, the grapes are tested daily to ensure that they are at the right ripeness so that the best time for harvesting can be chosen. Careful work is carried out in the cellar, e.g. using pneumatic presses to protect the grapes. Les Calades is matured in concrete tanks for nine months. As with the other wines from Clos Saint Jean, this cuvée, which consists of 70% Grenache and 30% Caladoc, is bottled according to the lunar calendar. This spicy, fragrant Châteauneuf-du-Pape impresses with plenty of dark fruit, with notes of currants, cherries, blackberries and plums. Overall, the ripe fruit bouquet is in the foreground here, as aromas of strawberry and some raspberry follow, with further hints of forest scents, licorice, mocha and mint. The palate offers a harmonious overall impression of good acidity, beautifully polished and well-integrated tannins and a lovely finish.A sophisticated red wine that goes well with many Mediterranean dishes, but also with somewhat heartier and spicier dishes such as pasta, game, braised meat or goulash.

Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge AOP
This classic Côtes du Rhône comes from one of the oldest vineyards in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation (AOC), which was founded in 1936. Château La Nerthe dates back to the 14th century and, with over 90 hectares, has one of the largest vineyards in the region.Tradition and great attention to detail are very important here. The grapes are harvested by hand and then sorted on the table. Fermentation takes place in vats for 18 to 21 days, with regular pumping over and plunging of the cap, and daily tasting of the must to check that exactly the right degree of extraction is achieved. After undergoing malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021 is matured in barrel for 12 months. The wine rewards this with a deep red color. On the nose, the aroma of blackcurrants, black tea and dried flowers. The palate is full, fruity and with plenty of fat and body. Overall, this dry red wine has a very pure and intense character. We recommend this great French red wine with lamb, beef or duck.

Piekenierskloof Carel van Zyl Old Vine Grenache Noir

Waterford Estate Grenache Noir
