The legendary Australian Penfolds winery’s philosophy is to assemble grape varieties from various regions and different vineyards into minor and major masterpieces. The Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional example of this: the nose reveals a fascinating multi-faceted bouquet with notes of cassis, black currants, pepper and black olives as well as cocoa, mocha and walnut, complemented by delicate hints of oak due to twelve months of aging in French and American oak casks. The Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon is dense and powerful on the palate with noticeable but nicely integrated tannins and a refreshing acidity.

This pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of grapes from the regions of McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and Barossa Valley.

This Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz is a deep brick-red in colour. Initially, the wine offers sumptuous, warm and spicy Shiraz aromas such as cloves, cinnamon, coriander, juicy plums and cherries. Later, it shows notes of liquorice and fine nuances of vanilla.This wine is medium-bodied and rich in taste, showing juicy aromas of plums, cherries and berries, which mingle with notes of dark chocolate, mocha and spices.The wine matured for 12 months in repeatedly used American oak casks.The Penfolds Bin 28 is a prime example of Australian Shiraz wines, made of grapes which ripened at a pleasant warmth. It is robust and offers opulent, juicy aromas, without showing dominant notes of new oak or an excessive alcohol content. This Shiraz was produced for the first time in 1962 and owed its name ‘Kalimna’ to the renowned vineyard located in the Barossa Valley. Penfolds acquired this vineyard in 1945, from whose grapes the wine was initially solely made.Today, the Bin 28 is a real Penfolds - a multi-regional and multi-vineyard blend, which means that this wine is made from vines from different regions and vineyards. It shows clearly defined, ripe fruit in its youth, concentration and significant fruit sweetness, with minimal wood influence.

The South Australian “The Dead Arm Shiraz” from d'Arenberg is a remarkable wine in many ways. The bouquet is seductive, with earthy notes and flavors of dark fruit, fennel and spicy nuances. With regard to the production process and the type of wine, the Penfolds Father Grand Tawny is similar to a port wine, though it is not allowed to bear the protected term ‘port’. However, this does not diminish the wine’s quality and characteristics - on the contrary, Penfolds, Australia’s most famous winery, has produced a genuine delight. The different base wines are at least 10 years old. Wines of an average of 15 different vintages unite to create the Penfolds Father Grand Tawny, thus ensuring that the nuances of each vintage produce a concentrated Tawny. The base wine is traditionally enriched with specially distilled alcohol containing between 78 and 85 of alcohol by volume, simultaneously increasing both the Tawny’s alcohol content and its complexity. In the glass, the Father Grand Tawny is a light brown of medium intensity with hints of yellow and green at the rim. On the nose, it offers wonderful notes of oak, chocolate, plums and roasted nuts, complemented by nuances of cloves and anise. On the palate, the Tawny shows its full power and elegance, offering sweet notes of fruitcake and concentrated wood aromas. Its finish is wonderfully balanced, fresh and long-lasting.The Penfolds Father Grand Tawny 10 Years is lovely on its own as an aperitif and goes beautifully with sweet desserts.

Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny 20 Years

Dieses Verfahren findet Anwendung beim Sherry, Brandy oder Port. Beim Grandfather Rare Tawny werden einzelne Chargen verschiedener Rebsorten in getoasteten Eichenfässern gereift. Die Kernauswahl der Sorten bilden dabei die Rebsorten Mourvedre, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon und Grenache. Wobei in einzelnen Jahren auch andere Rebsorten zum Einsatz kommen. Nach 14 Jahren werden die Weine zur ersten Stufe der Solera, dem Grundwein, zusammengemischt. In sechs weiteren jährlichen Stufen wird jeweils etwa ein Drittel des Weins aus der nächstjüngeren Stufe hinzugefügt. Dieses lässt sich als eine Art rollierendes Verfahren beschreiben. Nach der sechsten Stufe liefert der Wein für die Flasche ein durchschnittliches Mindestalter von zwanzig Jahren. Der Wein wird am Schluss mit einem Destillat von 78 bis 85% Alkohol aufgefüllt, bis ein Gesamtvolumen von 20% erreicht wird. Die Bezeichnung Grandfather stammt aus dem Jahre 1915, damals hat die Familie Penfolds erstmals ein Eichenfass mit der Mischung aus dem Tawny Material für die Verwendung des Solera Verfahrens reserviert. Aufgrund des Alters dieses Weines nannte man den Wein Grandfather. Die Farbe des Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny 20 Years ist in ein intensives Gelbbraun gehüllt. Durch die lange Fassreifung zeigt sich am Rand eine typische gelbgrüne Zeichnung ab. In der Nase präsentiert sich der Wein mit Noten von Lakritz und gerösteten Nüssen, sowie mit einem Duft nach Obstkuchen und Rosinen. Trotz des Alters deutet sich eine intensive Frische an. Am Gaumen zeigt sich eine schöne Cremigkeit und Ausgereiftheit. Klassische Vanille Aromen runden den Geschmack leicht süßlich, voll und rund ab. Im Abgang dominiert nochmals Frische und Frucht. Der Grandfather Rare Tawny 20 Years ist ein hochkonzentrierter und komplexer Wein.
