Speaking a local dialect known as ‘Barossa-Deutsch', a blend of German and English that embodies much of the history of the district, one of Langmeil's best growers doesn't curse, just as his forebears didn't, but in the heat of vintage is oft heard to mutter "Hangin' Snakes!”.

Since rejuvenating the abandoned 19th Century vineyards and cellars, in less than two decades Langmeil has created an enviable worldwide reputation for its coveted Shiraz.

Enjoy this wine with rice dishes or poultry.

Founded in the 1840s, the Barossa is one of Australia’s oldest premier wine regions. Shiraz is the cornerstone of the region’s fame. Langmeil Steadfast Shiraz Cabernet has a medium depth crimson-colour with purple hues. On the nose juicy raspberries, ripe Satsuma plum and white pepper dominate. They are complemented by hints of vanilla, licorice and peppermint. On the palate a well balanced mouthful of sweet, juicy fruit, melding wonderfully with briary and peppery spice. A medium bodied wine with a lovely fruitful, spicy and silky tannin finish. The wine matured for 9 month in French and American oak.

The ‘garden' was how the old Barossa vigneron referred to his vineyard. Our Three Gardens in Nuriootpa, Lyndoch and Seppeltsfield, yield a fine red blend with a distinct Barossa style and complementary characteristics.The blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre and some Carignan and Counoise shows good balance and integrated structure. It has full, ripe fruit, supported by firm but fine tannins. The overall flavours and cherries and blackberries, with hints of mokka and spice.

The artisan of iron has now made way for the new craftsman who has blended the oldest of Barossa traditions to forge this spectacular wine. Our Cabernet Sauvignon, the unsung hero of Barossa wine, has been matured in new (20%) and seasoned (80%) French Oak for two years, achieving the structure, depth and balance expected from this premium Australian grape growing region.In 1838 a 32 year old Blacksmith, Christian Auricht, arrived in South Australia from Prussia with his wife and four children. He subsequently settled in the new hamlet of Langmeil and built a smithy, around which grew the trading centre of the village.

The pretty nose is very floral with violets, lavender and rose water dancing with the more varietal purple fruits and a touch of cedar adds charming spice.The palate opens with varietal bravado and a mixture of red and purple fruits. Raspberry, blueberry and plum make way for a regional mocha character and an extra layer of complexity that includes graphite and roasted meats. It finishes with a cinnamon spicy lift and fresh, fine grain powdery tannins. Ripeness is well in check and the acid keeps the fresh and juicy palate focused.Before being renamed The Footbolt Shiraz in 1996, the Old Vine Shiraz (as it was then known) was the first wine to use the term ‘Old Vine’. When this became common practice it was altered to honour a racehorse that changed the Osborn family forever. The founder of d’Arenberg, Joseph Osborn was a successful racehorse owner and Footbolt was the pride of his stable. In 1912 he made the hard decision to sell his stable of horses to start d’Arenberg, so it is only fitting they pay homage to Joseph and his prize horse, Footbolt.
