The Valbuena 5° is the purest expression of a red wine from Vega Sicilia. This blend of Tinto Fino and a small percentage of Merlot comes from vines averaging 35 years of age, grown on 210 hectares of Vega Sicilia’s single vineyard at elevations ranging from 720 to 930 meters. With its combination of power, elegance, and exceptional finesse, the Valbuena 5° ranks among the great classics of the Ribera del Duero.
The grapes are hand-harvested into small 12-kg crates and carefully selected. The aging process takes a total of five years, to which the wine owes its name: It matures for twelve months in oak barrels, followed by twelve months in large wooden casks, another six months in stainless steel tanks, and finally 18 months in the bottle. This exceptionally long aging period gives it its impressive complexity, elegance, and harmony.
On the nose, the Valbuena 5° presents a multi-layered and elegant bouquet. On the palate, it is precise, profound, and superbly structured. Its fine tannin structure, harmonious balance, and exceptional length give it great expressiveness and enormous aging potential.
This great Ribera del Duero pairs perfectly with braised lamb, beef tenderloin, game dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Thanks to its aging potential, it is both an excellent dining companion and a wine for special occasions.
