Holden Manz Big G

The ruby-red Holden Manz Big G is a tribute to the winery’s owner, Gerard Holden. A man of particularly robust character and brimming with energy—much like the wine itself, a full-bodied, robust Bordeaux blend. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, this wine is well-balanced, very well-structured, and robust. The grapes were harvested by hand, and only the best berries were selected for winemaking. Only selected plots from the various vineyards were used for this wine. After malolactic fermentation in 30% new and 70% used French oak barrels, the wine underwent a further 24 months of aging in wood.

On the nose, the Holden Manz Big G reveals aromas of black cherry, red plum, mint, blueberry, cedar, a hint of pine, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the tannins are noticeable yet soft, combined with the creaminess of cassis. The finish features a magnificent, long-lasting volume of dark fruit.

It pairs exceptionally well with jerky or filet Wellington.

Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon
The Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant and powerful red wine from South Africa that impresses with its remarkable depth, structure and aromatic complexity. This red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc comes from organically farmed vineyards in Franschhoek. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, rigorously selected and then fermented spontaneously in egg-shaped concrete tanks. The wine is matured in 95% new French oak barrels - a vinification process that gives the wine its elegant texture, velvety tannins and characteristic roasted aromas. In the glass, the wine is a deep purple red. From the very first whiff, it reveals a complex bouquet of dark berries, eucalyptus, graphite and herbs such as lavender and thyme. There are also nuances of liquorice, black tea and fine spices, which underline the aristocratic character of this Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the wine is concentrated but never overloaded. The fruit is densely interwoven with a fine minerality, the acid structure is precise, the tannins ripe and supple. The wine lingers on the finish - with notes of cassis, mocha and a hint of leather. The Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon is an ideal accompaniment to aromatic, spicy meat dishes. It goes particularly well with rack of lamb with a herb crust, braised beef with rosemary or game dishes with a dark sauce. This wine also reveals its full potential with mature hard cheese and hearty vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto.

Holden Manz Vernissage
The Holden Manz Vernissage is a cuvée consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety gives the wine a lovely structure and particularly elegant tannins. Shiraz and Merlot provide notes of spices and fruit aromas, which are mainly characterised by nuances of dark cherries and plums. The wine is a light ruby-red, developing into a clear red towards the rim in the glass. The Holden Manz Vernissage has a balanced acidity and shows vivid aromas of cassis, tobacco and spice, giving the wine a very good balance. Its finish is soft and long-lasting. Winemaker Thierry Haberer selected the grapes from various vineyards with different types of soil. The grapes were harvested when fully ripe, thus giving the wine a wonderful complexity. After the careful blending of the single batches and grape varieties and the numerous tastings involved, Thierry finally created this expressive, balanced and very fruity Holden Manz Vernissage. The wine matured for 18 months in 225-litre French oak casks. Enjoy the wine with lamb stews with garlic sauce or grilled polenta.
