Feuerheerd's 10 Years Tawny Port comes from the Douro region in Portugal and is made from the traditional grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão. Its characteristic color is bright and intense, with brick-red highlights and an amber rim—a typical appearance of a Tawny Port aged for years in wood.
After being hand-harvested, the grapes are partially destemmed and crushed. Following a brief maceration, alcoholic fermentation begins, which is halted at the optimal time by the addition of brandy. The port wine is then aged for between nine and twelve years in oak barrels in the Douro. For the final blend, several carefully selected wines with an average age of ten years are blended together and filtered before bottling.
On the nose, the Tawny Port reveals intense aromas of dried fruit, coffee, honey, and caramel. On the palate, it displays notes of ripe black fruit, chocolate, and spicy oak, which define its complex and harmonious character.
Best served slightly chilled, Feuerheerd’s 10 Years Tawny Port pairs excellently with desserts featuring dried fruit, red berries, or dark chocolate. It also offers a delightful contrast to spicy blue cheese. Presented in a gift tube, it also makes a stylish gift for lovers of aged port wines.
