The Opus One of the 2013 vintage had already set standards, and that despite the fascinatingly high quality of these wines. The 97+ score awarded by Robert Parker in his Wine Advocate speaks for itself, and the 2014 vintage promises to be superlative as well. In any case, the internationally renowned wine critics James Suckling (97 points) and Antonio Galloni (95+) are also impressed.
The bouquet of the Opus One 2014 is characterised by wonderfully intense notes of fresh garden herbs, forest floor, red cherries, blackberries and black currants, along with stimulating floral fragrances. This blend, consisting of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 2% Malbec, is velvety on the plate, with lovely deep aromas (dark fruit, black olives). The fine tannins show a silky texture and a complex structure, leading to an impressively long, fresh finish offering nuances of mocha. This masterpiece of Californian viticulture was aged for 18 months.
