This Rioja matured for 14 months in both large and small oak casks. The Telmo Rodriguez Lanzaga Rioja has an intense bouquet offering notes of blackberries and black currants, showing a lovely spice. The bouquet is complemented by nuances of fennel, liquorice and aniseed.

The Tempranillo from the Rioja Alavesa branch is fresh, melty and warm on the palate, with fine tannins and an intense, prolonged finish.

Luiz Gutiérrez awards this wine 92 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and provides this recommendation: ‘The nose is spectacular after an hour in the glass, so I’d open and decant it in advance if you are planning to drink it in the short term.’

The Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano grape varieties unite here to create the wonderful Muga Reserva Rioja. This red wine is redolent of blackberries and fennel, complemented by fine roast aromas and lovely nuances of vanilla, coffee and white chocolate. The Rioja is impressively full-bodied and aromatic on the palate, offering the fruitiness of berries, hints of menthol and an elegant acidity. The finish is long-lasting. The Muga Reserva Rioja matured for 24 months in oak casks (medium toast) and for at least another 12 months in the bottle. Try this Rioja with veal, cold cuts (pork) or rather hearty stews, for example. The wine is also available in 1.5- and 0.375-litre bottles.

The Zenato Valpolicella is somewhat similar to the Bardolino; however, the Valpolicella is a little more powerful and shows a fuller body – it is simply of better quality. The wine consists of Corvina Veronese (responsible for the bouquet and the acidity), Rondinella (lots of sugar) and Sangiovese (gives the wine its elegance).This is a wine that can be enjoyed young, but another few years of ageing in the wine cellar will further enhance its qualities. The Roda Sela has a deep, red colour with bluish red hues throughout.In the nose there is a very expressive red fruit bouquet, especially ripe red cherry, with a nutty edge reminiscent of almonds and broken cherry bones. The wine is medium bodied, with scant presence of the oak adding to the feeling of lightness and freshness it provides.On the palate it is silky smooth, medium bodied, very fresh, well textured with no troughs. The oak is hardly evident, with round, well integrated tannins, giving way to a lingering finish of seasoned red fruits that make it light and fresh.  In this case Iadding youth and freshness to the depth and ripeness of the seasoned fruit so prevalent in this vintage.
