The Delheim winery in South Africa presents the Iconoclast Cape Blend, a unique, bold wine that honors the pioneering work of its creator. This blend breaks with classic Cape Blend conventions by using Shiraz as the leading grape variety - a special feature that reflects the innovative spirit of the winery and its creator's preference for Shiraz.

Iconoclast combines four grape varieties to create a harmonious, complex cuvée. In the glass, it has a deep dark, luminous color, while the nose is characterized by intense aromas of ripe berries, spicy herbs and fine chocolate notes. A powerful, structured wine with velvety tannins, lively acidity and a long, elegant finish unfolds on the palate. The combination of fruitiness, spice and harmonious structure makes it an expressive representative of its terroir and unconventional character.

This Cape Blend is an excellent accompaniment to grilled or braised lamb, roast beef or hearty game dishes. At a serving temperature of 16-18 °C, the wine shows all its elegance and depth.

Delheim Wines

Das Weingut Delheim liegt hoch auf den südlichen Hängen des Simonsbergs in Südafrika. Seinen Ursprung hat das Weingut auf einer Farm, auf der anfangs nur Obstbäume und Krüppelholz wuchsen. Sie wird bereits im Jahre 1699 erstmalig in der Geschichte erwähnt; damals noch unter dem Namen Drie Sprong.

Im Jahr 1938 kaufte der Deutsche Hans Hoheisen die Farm als Altersruhesitz für sich und seine Frau Deli. Nach seiner Frau benannte er auch die Farm: Delheim – Deli’s Heim. 1940 begannen die Hoheisens auf Anraten von Freunden Weinstöcke anzupflanzen. Hoheisens Neffe Michael Sperling unterstützte seinen Onkel seit 1951 und übernahm 1957 das Weingut komplett. Michael Sperling genannt „Spatz“ führte das Weingut zu weltweitem Ruhm. Es zählt heute zu den renommiertesten Weingütern in der Region Stellenbosch und ist auch in Deutschland ein Begriff. Hier werden Weine mit beständig hoher Qualität und ungewöhnlichen Namen hervorgebracht. Inzwischen sorgt mit Viktor und Nora Sperling die Generation nach „Spatz“ dafür, dass die Delheim-Weine weiterhin erstklassig sind.

Wichtigste Strategie von Delheim Wines ist die gleichbleibend hohe Qualität der Weine. 5 Sterne von John Platter, 92 Punkte vom britischen Wine Magazine für den Vera Cruz Shiraz, und der Delheim Sauvignon Blanc 2001 gelangte in die Auswahl für die 100 Topweine auf der Sydney International Wine Competition. Auch die Cabernet Sauvignons werden stets wärmstens empfohlen.

Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage - South Africa's icon in its purest formAn "icon" wine is the name given to a wine that has held an exceptional position for years. And this is exactly what the Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage has achieved. This South African Pinotage can rightly claim to be something very special. The grapes come from 63-year-old bushvine vines, the name given to vines that grow in bush form in South Africa. This means that the vines grow naturally, with the winemaker only intervening in nature by pruning. The vines thrive on dry soils characterized by decomposed granite and weathered rock. The yield per hectare is extremely low at 2.8 tons, which ensures a high level of complexity in the wine.Fermentation took place in open concrete vats. The mash was manually pressed every 2 hours and the juice was extracted from the skins after 3.5 days. Maturation took place for 18 months in 100% new French barrique barrels. As a result, the Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage achieves complex aromas of black cherry, plum and dark chocolate with a hint of cedar on the nose. On the palate, it is full with a velvety tannin structure and notes of red and black fruits. The finish is long-lasting and intense.The Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage is an excellent accompaniment to red meat or spicy Asian cuisine.

‘Diesel Pinotage’ is certainly an unusual name for a wine. However, it is easily explained once you know the history behind it. ‘Diesel’ was the name of the dog of Beyer Truters, the owner of the Beyerskloof estate. The dog was his beloved, loyal and constant companion. Diesel was always at his side, whether in the vineyards, in the cellar or in his office, so it was only logical that Beyers Truters named his best wine after his ‘best’ friend.The grapes for the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage come from bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. In South Africa, the bush vine method is often used specifically for Pinotage. The fermentation took place in open barrels for 5 days at an average temperature of 78.8° F, while the must was pressed down every 2 hours. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the wine matured for 21 months in new French oak casks. Only 20 out of a total of 300 filled barrels were chosen to produce the Diesel Pinotage.The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a deep purple in the glass. Its bouquet is characterised by complex aromas of blackberries and dark fruit, complemented by elegant notes of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine shows a fine but complex structure of black and red fruit. This Pinotage is truly a superb wine, captivating with its outstanding balance between fruit and wood. This wine has an outstanding ageing potential and it is expected to be a genuine delight over the next 10 years or even longer.It is an ideal accompaniment to spicy Indian cuisine or a well-matured rump steak. The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is arguably one of the best Pinotage wines from the Cape.

The Oldenburg Vineyards Rhodium is a noble Bordeaux cuvee from the esteemed South African wine region of Stellenbosch. Named after the rare precious metal, this wine stands for precision, elegance and exceptional quality. Oldenburg Vineyards uses the unique terroir around the striking Rondekop hill to produce wines of impressive depth and finesse.The cuvee is based on Merlot and Cabernet Franc, supplemented by a 10% share of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from high-altitude, well-ventilated vineyards, which allow for slow ripening and thus ensure concentrated aromas. After careful manual harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place to preserve the fine fruit. The wine then matures for 18 months in French oak barrels, a large proportion of which are new. This gives it an impressive structure and elegant spiciness.In the glass, the Oldenburg Vineyards Rhodium is a bright ruby red with purple reflections. The nose reveals a multi-layered bouquet of fruity, herbal and floral notes, accompanied by hints of cranberry, sage and thyme as well as lavender, fresh rose petals and a core of black cherries. On the palate, it is harmonious with silky tannins, a softness and elegance that is breathtakingly lively. The finish is long and elegant with hints of dark chocolate and a subtle smokiness.The Oldenburg Vineyards Rhodium goes perfectly with fine meat dishes such as fillet of beef, saddle of lamb or game. Matured hard cheeses and truffle dishes are also ideal accompaniments for this complex and multi-layered wine.
